The Competence feature in Simployer One empowers you to identify, assess, and develop the key skills your organization needs—today and in the future. Whether you’re an HR administrator, manager, or employee, this guide will help you make the most of the feature from day one.

Why We Built the Competence feature

Supporting employee growth and aligning skills with business needs is a core HR priority. With Competence, we aim to make it easy for you to track, assess, and develop the skills of your workforce—so you can build the right team for today and tomorrow.

🚀 Getting Started: Step-by-Step

👤 For Admins & Owners

  1. Access the Competence Library

  2. Create Skills

    1. Click New competence to define a new skill.

    2. Each skill should include a name and a description.

    3. You can choose to:

      1. Assign the skill as mandatory for everyone, or

      2. Target it to specific teams, departments, office, etc, or

      3. Add it without requiring it for anyone

  3. View Company-Wide Competence Levels

    1. Navigate to the Employee Competence tab

    2. Filter by skill to see which employees possess it and at what proficiency level

As an admin or owner, you also have access to all manager and employee-level features described below.

🧑‍💼 For Managers

  1. Track Team Skills

    1. On the Competence page, view skills and levels for your direct reports

    2. Filter by skill to assess distribution across your team

  2. Manage Individual Competencies

    1. Go to an employee’s profile > Competence tab

    2. Add or update skills and assign proficiency levels for each

🙋 For Employees

  1. Navigate to your profile > Competence tab

  2. View all your skills and current proficiency levels

🔒 Your skills and levels are only visible to you, your manager, and system admins/owners.

🔔 Notifications

🧑‍🏫 Manager Notifications

  • When a required skill is assigned to one of your employees, you’ll receive an email notification prompting you to assess and assign a level.

👩‍💻 Employee Notifications

  • When your manager updates your skill levels, you’ll receive an email about the changes.
